As a professional using the KEYDIY KD X4, it’s crucial to understand when and how to bypass this protection to complete your key programming.
1. Does the KD X4 require an SFD Unlock?
Yes, but only for specific models. While the KD X4 is a powerful tool for key recognition, generation, copying, programming, and matching — works alone or with phone, tablet, or PC, newer MQB and MLB platform vehicles have locked gateways. If you are trying to perform IMMO programming or adaptations on these late-model cars, the system will remain locked until an SFD Unlocking Token is provided.
2. Do I need to buy points for SFD?
Unlike standard remote generation which uses KD points, SFD unlocking is a security-level clearance.
- Is it free? Generally, no. Unlocking the gateway requires a unique token tied to the vehicle’s VIN.
- Point consumption: In some software versions, you may see a point requirement, but for most “High-Spec” SFD unlocks, it is handled via a token-based system rather than standard KD generation points.
3. Can I buy SFD Tokens directly in the KD X4?
Currently, the KD X4 serves as the portal to enter the code, but it does not always sell the tokens directly within the device “Mall” like standard licenses.
- Third-Party Providers: Most UK locksmiths use verified third-party SFD services (such as GEKO accounts or independent token sellers).
- The Process: You read the VIN and the request code from the car using your KD X4, send that info to a third-party seller, and they send you back the SFD Token to input into the device.
